ORTINSKY NIKOLAY IGNATIEVICH
colonel, participant in World War II, Hero of the Soviet Union (24.12.1943)

   He was born on December 19, 1914, in the whole of Jenishkovtsy (now Vinkovetsky District, Khmelnitsky Region, Ukraine). He lived in Moscow from an early age, graduating from the 7th grade of the school and the factory school. In 1936 he graduated from the artillery department of the United Central Asian Higher Military School. In the Red Army since 1933. A participant in World War II, he was commander of the 321st Guards Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment of the 7th Guards Fighter-Tank Artillery Brigade of the 47th Army of the Voronezh Front until October 1943. Wounded in battles.
   He fought valiantly in the Battle of the Dnieper. On the night of September 29-30, 1943, Ortinsky’s regiment crossed the Dnieper River near the village of Reshetki, Kanevsky district, Cherkasy region of the Ukrainian SSR, and took an active part in the battles to hold the platsdarm on the west bank, against 7 German tanks. repulses an organized attack and destroys 4 tanks. On October 2, 1943, at the height of the battle, Ortynsky saved the situation by firing his regiment’s gun directly and throwing the enemy back.
   By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 24, 1943, Colonel Nikolai Ignatievich Ortinsky was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union “For exemplary performance of the command’s combat missions, courage and heroism in the fight against the Nazi invaders on the front”.
   In 1958, Ortinsky was released from the reserve with the rank of colonel. After the Tashkent earthquake, he came to Tashkent to take part in the reconstruction of Tashkent and stayed there. He died on June 10, 1982 and will be buried in the Alley of Heroes of the Tashkent Military Cemetery.
