YOQUBOV (YOQIBOV) USMON
Corporal of the Guard, Participant of World War II, The Hero of the Soviet Union (July 22, 1944)
Usmon Yakubov was born in Naiman village (now Andijan district of Andijan region). He was Kyrgyz. He had a primary education. From 1926 he lived in the village of Tuguz-Bulak in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan, now Karasuv district. He worked on a collective farm, and in the construction of the Otuz-Odir canal.
In December 1941, he was drafted into the Red Army. From January 1942, he took part in the battles on the front. Until the summer of 1944, he fought in the 201st Rifle Regiment of the 67th Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front. He fought valiantly for the liberation of Belarus.
On June 22, 1944, during a battle near the village of Orekhi (Vitebsk Oblast, Belarus), Guardsman Yakubov was the first to break into an enemy trench during reconnaissance. The machine gun fire prevented him from moving, but he destroyed it by throwing a grenade at the expense of the enemy machine gun. After destroying the firing point, the attack continued. In that battle, Usmon Yakubov was killed in a hand-to-hand battle with the enemy.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 22, 1944, “For exemplary performance of combat duties on the front, in the fight against Nazi invaders, for courage and heroism”, Corporal Yakubov Osman was awarded the title of “The Hero of the Soviet Union” (after his death).
He was buried on the battlefield near the village of Orexi and was later reburied in the Brotherhood Cemetery in the village of Tropino, Shumilinsky District.
