Born on April 3, 1923 in the village of Vladimirovka now Mezhevsky district of the Dnipropetrovsk region (Ukraine) in a peasant family. Ukrainian. He graduated from a seven-year school.
In 1941 he was evacuated to the city of Tashkent, where he also worked at a steam locomotive plant. February 28, 1942 drafted into the Red Army and sent to study at the Tashkent machine gun and mortar school.
From August 1942 on the front of the Second World War.
On June 24, 1944, in the area of the village of Yanovo (now the village of Bykhov district of the Mogilev region, Belarus), guns destroyed 2 machine guns and up to 10 German soldiers.
By order of the commander of the 169th Infantry Division of July 19, 1944, Staff Sergeant Gritsenko Vasily Trofimovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.
On January 15-18, 1945, in the area of the settlement of Pechisk, they destroyed an anti-tank gun and suppressed 8 enemy firing points.
By order of the commander of the 3rd Army of May 3, 1945, Staff Sergeant Gritsenko Vasily Trofimovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
During the Berlin offensive on April 28, 1945, in the area of the settlement of Teyrov (Germany), he destroyed 2 easel and 2 light machine guns, 4 vehicles with military equipment. In battle, he replaced the killed commander of a rifle platoon and organized the reflection of an enemy counterattack, destroying the enemy’s manpower before a platoon.
On May 5, 1945, on the outskirts of the city of Gentin (Germany), gunners suppressed the fire of two guns and destroyed 4 enemy machine guns with calculations.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946 «For the exemplary performance of command assignments in battles against Nazi invaders», Staff Sergeant Gritsenko Vasily Trofimovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
In 1947, demobilized. He died on June 30, 1992.
