SEMIKOV ALEXANDR IVANOVICH
Major of the Guard, Participant of World War II, The Hero of the Soviet Union (May 31, 1945)
He was born on November 23, 1916, in the village of Lavrentevo. After finishing the 5th grade of school, he worked in agriculture. He later graduated from the Tashkent Railway College and worked as a wagon builder in Andijan. In 1937 he was drafted into the Red Army. In 1941 he graduated from the Tashkent Military-Political School. He had been involved in World War II since July of that year. He was wounded 3 times in the battle. In 1942 he graduated from the Vistrel courses. In 1944 he graduated from the Military Academy named after
M.V. Frunze.
In April 1945, he commanded the 227th Artillery Guards Regiment of the 79th Artillery Guards Division of the 8th Guards Army of the 1st Belorussian Front.
He was active in the Berlin operation. In early February 1945, the regiment crossed the Oder, captured the bridgehead on the west coast, and repulsed many German counter-attacks. He remained in the lineup despite being severely wounded in battle.
In the battle for Dolgelin, Semikov’s unit overcame the enemy’s strong defensive line at the Dolgelin-Frankfurt highway and railway crossing. Five enemy tanks were hidden in the path of the regiment, even heavy artillery and “katyusha” weapons could not destroy them. The armor of the tanks was sheltered by stones. Experienced sappers went behind them and destroyed the tanks. The regiment was soon attacked by heavy artillery, followed by air strikes and infantry. After a two-hour battle, Semikov’s regiment was able to defeat the enemy with the help of tankers of the 8th Guards Mechanized Corps of General I.F.Dryomov.
There were heavy casualties on both sides, and Lieutenant Colonel Semikov was injured. While Lieutenant Colonel Semikov was in the front battalion of the 1st Battalion, a bomb dropped from an enemy plane and exploded near him. Bomb shrapnel shattered his right thigh, injured his arm and shoulder. The doctors saved her life. The final attack could not take part in the capture of Berlin.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, “For exemplary performance of combat duties, courage and heroism in the fight against Nazi invaders on the front” Major Semikov Alexandr was awarded the title of “The Hero of the Soviet Union”.
He lived in the village of Shodnya, and later in the city of Khimki, Moscow region. He died on March 23, 1995 and was buried in the village of Khimok in Mashkin.
