SVINARCHUK NIKOLAY DAVIDOVICH
Senior Sergeant, Participant of World War II, The Hero of the Soviet Union (March 24, 1945)
He was born on January 20, 1920 in the village of Golodnaya Step (now Gulistan) in a family of railway workers. He was Russian. He had a primary education. He worked on the Boyovut railway of the Uzbek SSR.
Since October 25, 1940, he had served in the Red Army. He participated in battles from August 1942. Kalinin fought on the 2nd Baltic, the 1st and the 2nd Belorussian fronts. He took part in the offensive operations of Velikolukskaya, Nevelskaya and Polesskoy. He was wounded twice in battles. He was particularly active in Operation Lublin-Brest.
On July 26, 1944, N.D. Svinarchuk’s platoon crossed the Kialna River near the town of Biala Podlaska (now Lublin Voivodechnika, Poland). When a platoon commander died, he took the command of the platoon, squeezed the Germans out of the trenches and allowed other units of the battalion to move to the bridgehead, and firmly defended the occupied position. The next day, a platoon bypassed the highway near the village of Bohukali and blocked the retreat of the besieged enemy units. Returning 8 counterattacks, the platoon destroyed an armored vehicle, 3 vehicles and up to 150 enemy soldiers and officers. The enemy could not pass through the area occupied by the platoon.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, “For exemplary performance of combat duties, courage and heroism in the fight against Nazi invaders on the front”, Senior Sergeant Svinarchuk Nikolay was awarded the title of “The Hero of the Soviet Union”.
He lived in Lenger, Shymkent region of the Kazakh SSR. He died on January 1, 1983.
