TROSHKOV ALEXANDER DANILOVICH

Private, Participant of World War II, The Hero of the Soviet Union (March 24, 1945)

Alexander Troshkov was born in 1904 in the village of Beruni (now a city in Karakalpakstan). After graduating from the fifth grade of school, he worked on a collective farm.
In 1943, Troshkov was drafted into the Red Army. From October of that year, he participated in World War II.
Until December 1944, he was a machine gunner of the 1st Rifle Regiment of the 99th Cavalry Division of the 46th Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front. He worked hard to liberate Hungary.
On December 5, 1944, Troshkov was one of the first to cross the Danube River in the village of Mariahaz, 3 km north of Erchi, and personally destroyed three enemy firing points.
He did not lose his position that day, while repelling an enemy counterattacks protected by tanks. He waited for the enemy tanks to approach, and then attacked and destroyed them. Despite being severely wounded in battle, he continued to fight until the enemy retreated.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, “For exemplary performance of combat duties, courage and heroism in the fight against Nazi invaders on the front”, Private Alexander Troshkov was awarded the title of “The Hero of the Soviet Union.
He could not receive the award. He celebrated the Victory Day at hospital. He died suddenly on April 13, 1946.
