KALIYEV ANVAR MADIYEVICH

sergeant, participant in World War II, Hero of the Soviet Union (January 15, 1944)

He was born on March 8, 1921 in the village of Tarkhani (now Yarkovsky district of Tyumen region). Siberian Tatar. After graduating from the 7th grade of school, he worked on a collective farm.

In 1940, Kaliyev was drafted into the Red Army. From August 1941 – participated in World War II. He took part in the battles of Moscow, Rzhev and Kursk. Until the fall of 1943, he was a spy for the 326th Special Intelligence Company of the 246th Cavalry Division of the 65th Army of the Central Front. He fought valiantly for Desna and the Dnieper.

On September 16, 1943, Kaliyev crossed the Desna River as part of a reconnaissance group near the village of Mezin, Koropsky District, Chernihiv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Kaliyev was an intelligence officer on the front lines of the enemy’s defense and passed information to the command.

On October 19, 1943, Kaliyev, as part of a reconnaissance group, crossed the Dnieper near the village of Loyev, Loyevsky District, Gomel Region, Byelorussian SSR, and conducted reconnaissance to identify German firing points. In both cases, Kaliyev’s actions helped Soviet troops cross the river successfully.

By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, sergeant Kaliyev Anvar Madiyevich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, “For exemplary performance of combat duties, courage and heroism of the command in the fight against Nazi invaders on the front”.

In 1946 he was released from the reserve with the rank of sergeant. He lived and worked in various cities of the Uzbek SSR, and since 1983 has lived in Tashkent.

He died on September 11, 1998. He was buried in the village of Yurta, Yarkovsky district, Tyumen region.
