KOCHKOR KARSHIYEV

Senior Sergeant, Participant of World War II, The Hero of the Soviet Union (June 29, 1945)

He was born in 1923 in the village of Tangi-tepa (now Ishtikhon district of Samarkand region). He went to boarding school. He worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm. In 1942 he was drafted into the Red Army. Until January 1945, he was an army commander in the 407^th Special Anti-Tank Fighter Division of the 78^th Rifle Division (the 35^th Guards Rifle Corps of the 27^th Army of the 2^nd Ukrainian Front). Ukraine fought for the liberation of the USSR and Hungary.
In one of the battles, when Karshiyev’s cannon was completely out of line, he continued to fire alone and destroyed several enemy tanks and armored vehicles. In the battle for the city of Solotvino, Karshiyev’s cannon destroyed 1 tank, 1 armored vehicle and more than 10 German soldiers and officers. He fought several battles on the outskirts of Budapest and in the city center.
On February 5, 1945, he died in battle. He was buried in Budapest.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, “For exemplary performance of combat duties, courage and heroism in the fight against Nazi invaders on the front”, Senior Sergeant Karshiyev Kuchkar was awarded the title of “The Hero of the Soviet Union”.
